Roberto Mancini believes that in Adam Johnson, Manchester City might have captured the new Ryan Giggs.
The 22-year-old winger caught the eye at Middlesbrough with his willingness to run at defenders, earning him an £8million move to Eastlands on deadline day.
And in just two appearances for City, the England Under-21 international has already reproduced his dribbling ability on the Premier League stage, impressing off the bench at Hull before collecting man-of-the-match honours in the midweek win over Bolton.
Mancini has now drawn a comparison with Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, who was famously poached from City in his teens before enjoying a trophy-laden career at Old Trafford.
Johnson is cup-tied for Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round clash against Stoke having played for Boro against City in their third-round win at the Riverside.
But Mancini reckons that when Johnson returns to the side, he will go on to become a full England international - indeed, the ambitious youngster has already set his sights on forcing his way into World Cup contention.
"Johnson is a great player," said the City boss. "If he continues like he is at the moment he could get into the national team.
"I remember Ryan Giggs when he was young and the way he moved. Johnson is the same player.
"If he keeps working hard he has a good chance for the future."
