Derby County boss Nigel Clough is likely to wait until the season is over before discussing new contracts with Jay McEveley and Gary Teale.
Both players joined the Championship club three years ago, but their current deals at Pride Park expire in the summer.
Clough revealed before Christmas that he was planning to hold talks with the duo, but those negotiations have now been put on the back-burner.
The Rams chief is aware he could lose defender McEveley and midfielder Teale for nothing at the end of the season, but is prepared to take that chance.
"We will probably wait towards the end of the season or even at the end of the season now and see what our options are," said Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph.
"They are obviously free to talk to clubs, we understand that, but we have pretty much got tied down those we really want out there in the long term and if it means losing one or two players, that's the chance we'll take."
McEveley, who was sent off in Saturday's defeat by Swansea City, was linked with Ipswich Town during the transfer window, while Teale has recently been sidelined through injury.
