The former Celtic man is out of contract in the summer and could leave the County Ground on a free transfer at the end of the season.
However, Swindon boss Danny Wilson is keen to keep hold of the 29-year-old and a new deal is understood to be close to being sealed.
McGovern, who joined Swindon from MK Dons in 2007, has impressed for the League One club this season and has been instrumental in their fine recent form.
