Burnley boss disappointed with 2-1 defeat to Pompey

Brian Laws admitted that Clarke Carlisle had to take responsibility following Burnley's 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth. Frederic Piquionne's opener for Pompey was cancelled out by an exquisite Martin Paterson lob to leave it 1-1 at half-time. But Clarets skipper Carlisle gave away two penalties in the second half, the first of which was saved by Brian Jensen from Jamie O'Hara's effort. Hassan Yebda made no mistake from the second spot-kick to seal victory for the South Coast outfit and pile more pressure on Burnley. Laws, whose side sit just one place above basement-club Portsmouth, could not defend Carlisle's errors. Laws told Sky Sports: "We gave Portsmouth the three points - they've not gained it by great excellence, it was more through our decision making. There's no hiding place out there. "The captain has to take responsibility and hold his hand up and accept the blame for that."
