David Moyes has warned Manchester United that Jack Rodwell is not for sale this summer even if it makes the Everton youngster unhappy.
The Toffees starlet has been linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford ever since he made his debut as a 16-year-old in 2007.
The midfielder, who can also play at centre-back, managed to score against United last weekend as Everton ran out 3-1 winners at Goodison Park.
Moyes has already seen the champions snap up former Everton youngster Wayne Rooney back in 2004 for a cool £24million but the Scot is determined to make sure the same doesn't happen to Rodwell.
"I think everyone will always look at your players but even if they come to me and say 'Gaffer, I want to leave' I will probably say no," he told the
Sunday Mirror.
"Perhaps if someone made me an offer I thought was too good to turn down then maybe, but it is not about the money.
"I am not waiting for an offer - that's not what we are about."
Fourth spot
Meanwhile Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar feels the team's recent wins over title contenders Chelsea and Manchester United proves that the club have the quality to mount a late challenge for fourth spot.
"We respected both Manchester United and Chelsea but we have established the fact that any team that faces us now has to expect to face an Everton team which is really psyched up," he told
The People.
"Aside from the Europa League our goal has always been to close the gap between where we are now in the Premier League and fourth place."
However Moyes feels Everton's poor start to the season has put paid to any hopes of a fourth place finish.
"If we beat Tottenham then maybe we can finish fourth but I think there are just too many teams above us," he confessed.
"Our start to the season has given us too much to do."
