Partick manager Ian McCall has confirmed that on-loan veteran Jackie McNamara's season is over after breaking his leg on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old Celtic legend had to be stretchered from the Somerset Park pitch following a collision with Ayr defender Martyn Campbell.
McCall has now confirmed that the ex-Wolves and Aberdeen man broke his leg in the clash and that regardless of whether he requires surgery or not his season is over.
McNamara only signed a one-month loan move to Partick last month and is now expected to return to Falkirk, although it remains to be seen whether he continues his playing career next season.
"We could tell at the time it was a bad one and it has been confirmed Jackie has broken his leg," explained McCall.
"He's going to see a specialist to determine how serious the break is, but it's obviously a bad injury and our hope is that there isn't any cruciate damage.
"There are two scenarios and neither of them are good. The first is that if there is no operation required Jackie could make it for pre-season at the end of June.
"The second is that if he requires surgery he will be out until next August or September. Either way, Jackie will not play again this season."
