Midfielder reflects on almost joining Man City

McDonald Mariga has insisted he is happy at Inter Milan after almost joining Manchester City in January. Roberto Mancini had set his sights on the Kenyan midfielder during the winter transfer window and a move looked set to go ahead. However, the 22-year-old's application for a work permit was rejected and Inter were able to snap him up from Parma before the deadline. Mariga, who came on as a substitute in the UEFA Champions League victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, is proud to help put Kenya on the footballing map. And he is particularly looking forward to continuing his development under Jose Mourinho. "It is a dream come true to be here playing at this level with the greatest players, especially as a Kenyan I am very proud," Mariga told skysports.com.

Fantastic

"In Africa, Kenyans are not among the favourites to win games, but now they notice them. "I need to improve and play more at this level, but to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is a fantastic experience. "Manchester City? Yes I almost join them, but it did not happen because of my work permit. "But now I am at Inter with the best manager in the world."
