Chelsea new link to Danish starlet

Ajax are looking to tie down Danish starlet Christian Eriksen, who is a target for several major clubs. The likes of Manchester United and Barcelona have already been linked to the 18-year-old midfielder, who made his first-team debut earlier this season. Now, amid speculation that Chelsea have joined the chase, Eriksen insists that talks over a new deal are progressing. Eriksen, who also made his Denmark debut earlier this year, has just over 12 months left on his current deal and Ajax are understandably keen for him to sign a new long-term deal. "Everything is going well with my new contract," he told Onside. "But you need to ask my agent - he is the one who talks about that." Eriksen also insisted that he has no qualms about still turning out for Denmark's youth team after being selected for their Under-19s last week. "I am fine with being back in the Under-19s and I am looking forward to it," he said. "It will be fun to see all the guys again, it is true I have stepped up and played higher and I hope that happens again." Eriksen has been tipped as an outside bet to make Denmark's World Cup squad, but he admits Ajax remain his main focus. "I don't know about that [the World Cup], and Ajax is the key for me right now and they come before the national team."
