Darren Fletcher has hailed Man Utd's old guard as the club close on a fourth successive Premier League title.

Experience could be key in United's title tilt

Darren Fletcher has hailed Manchester United's old guard as the club close on a fourth successive Premier League title. Sunday's defeat of Liverpool, combined with Chelsea dropping points at Blackburn, saw United open up a lead at the top of the table. Arsenal lie in second two points behind United, while Chelsea are down four points on the champions but have a game in hand. Fletcher is confident that the collective experience and title nous in United's squad could see them home, with the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand having seen it all and done it before. "The league is in our hands. If we win all our games, we'll be champions. Hopefully we can do that," said Fletcher. "We have experience from the manager to lads like Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand. "They remind you of things in certain situations. The fans also have seen it all before." Success this season would see United pull clear of Liverpool on 19 titles and Fletcher admits usurping their Merseyside rivals is in the back of the players' thinking. He said: "This club is all about breaking records."
