Marouane Chamakh has indicated that money is not a motivating factor in his decision to quit Bordeaux.

Striker wants to experience 'different culture'

Marouane Chamakh has indicated that money is not a motivating factor in his decision to quit Bordeaux by stating that he wants a new experience. The 26-year-old is available on a free transfer as his contract with the French champions expires at the end of the season. Liverpool were interested in Chamakh, but Rafa Benitez has conceded defeat in the race for his signature to leave Arsenal in pole position. Bordeaux are understandably frustrated to be set to lose their star player in a free transfer, but the Morocco international has implied that money is not behind his thinking. "I just want to discover different football and other fans," the striker said in L'Equipe. "The time I have spent here (Bordeaux) has been wonderful and I still have other moments to share with the group." He added: "I want to give my best before leaving for new horizons. I will not give up trying. "My club and town will remain Bordeaux for ever. But I want to discover a different league, a different culture."
