Matthew Upson insists his West Ham team-mates must build on their hard-fought point against Everton on Sunday, which ended their six-game losing streak.
The Hammers twice battled back from a goal down to emerge with a creditable 2-2 draw at Goodison Park at the weekend.
The point moved Gianfranco Zola's side one clear of third-from-bottom Hull City, who still have a game in hand, as yet another exciting season draws to its conclusion.
Upson believes everyone is aware of the club's predicament and now he wants his colleagues to end their winless run by defeating Sunderland.
"There are not many hours of football left. It is down to us to get ourselves ready," he told the club's official website.
"We are fully aware of the situation, what is needed from us and will put everything together to do what we have to do.
"We are good enough. We will build on this, build up a good strategy for the next game ahead and then go out there as a team together to commit to it.
"Then, if we deliver the performance this can bring, then I am confident we can win the game against Sunderland.
"It is good to have broken that cycle, it was a poor one for us to have, something not nice to go through, so it was great to get a point and stop the rot."
