West Brom defender Jonas Olsson has revealed his anguish over the injury suffered by Watford midfielder Tom Cleverley.
Cleverley, on loan from Manchester United, was stretchered off in the second half following an accidental challenge from Olsson in Monday's 1-1 draw at Vicarage Road.
The full extent of his injury is yet to be revealed, but it seems certain that he will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after he was stretchered off wearing an oxygen mask and with his leg in a splint.
"It's never nice to be involved in an injury like that," Olsson told his club's official website. "Everyone who saw the tackle will know it wasn't intentional.
"He got the ball away from me, I slid to get the ball, he ran in and we got tangled up.
"I hope it's not bad. It does get to you when something like that happens.
"It's never nice. Sadly these things happen. I feel heartbroken for the lad."
Baggies manager Roberto Di Matteo does not believe any blame should be attributed to Olsson following the incident.
Di Matteo said: "As far as I could see, he was in possession, passed the ball and I'm not sure exactly how the challenge happened, but it was on the ball.
"I don't think there was anything wrong with my player. It was pretty unfortunate."
