Hull City defender Bernard Mendy says he is desperate for his team to secure Premier League survival so he can remain at the club.
Mendy signed for the Tigers in 2008 and agreed to a clause in his contract that would give the player and the club the option of ending his deal after two years.
Hull are facing a £21m shortfall in their finances should they make a return to the Championship and Mendy is likely to be one of many faces to depart the KC Stadium in an attempt to balance the books.
That means the 28-year-old Frenchman could find his days at the Humberside outfit numbered as he approaches the end of his deal.
And the former Bolton right-back admitted it is a prospect he is not looking forward to after revealing his desire to remain in East Yorkshire.
Mendy told the
Hull Daily Mail: "I have one more year on my current deal but if the team go down, my contract is finished. I want to stay here, my family are really happy here and my children go to school here so everybody is happy.
"I don't want to go anywhere else. I have a clause that says that if we stay up, I have one year left, but if we go down my contract is finished. So I have my fingers crossed every day and I believe that we can stay up."
Mendy's chances of staying at Hull could be massively increased by helping his team to victory over Burnley on Saturday.
The two sides meet in a relegation six-pointer that pits the second and third bottom teams in the division against each other at the KC Stadium.
Three points for Iain Dowie's team could see them rise out of the relegation zone, although defeat would haul the Clarets level on 27 points.
Last week's 2-0 reverse at Stoke kept Hull in the drop places, and Mendy was under no illusion as to what outcome his team needed when Brian Laws' side travel over the Pennines at the weekend.
The former PSG man insisted: "We need to win Saturday - no draw, no defeat. Win. If we win this game we take three points and we can get out of the bottom three.
"Every game is very important but this game is like a final because of the club's chances of survival."
Mendy backed Dowie as the man to guide Hull to safety following the dismissal of former manager Phil Brown, adding: "Iain is the right man to keep us up. He has good experience and he is a good man.
"Training is very good and I like him, as do all the players. I think he is the man for the situation."
