Royals keeper committed to Socceroos

Adam Federici has laughed off reports suggesting he is to switch international allegiance to Italy. The Reading goalkeeper is a regular part of the Australia set-up, where he performs back-up duties to Mark Schwarzer. However, as he holds dual nationality, reports had claimed that he was considering jumping ship. Having never featured in a fully recognised senior international for the Socceroos, he is free to switch sides if he so wishes. It had been claimed that Italy were keeping tabs on him ahead of this summer's World Cup, and that Federici was interested in accepting a call from Marcello Lippi.

Amusing

Such reports appear to have been wide of the mark, though, as the 25-year-old insists he is fully committed to the Australia cause. He said: "I didn't make the comments I've seen in the papers, but it was quite amusing to read them. "I got a few texts from home telling me about it but I just laughed it off. "I could go down that road if I wanted as my father and his family are all Italian, but I'm Aussie through and through."
