Yannick Bolasie believes Plymouth Argyle can cause an upset on Monday against league leaders Newcastle United and go on to beat the drop this season.
The Pilgrims have occupied a place in the bottom three for the majority of the 2009/10 campaign and, with just three games to go, sit six points adrift of safety.
However, Bolasie insists there is still a belief within the squad that survival can be achieved against all the odds.
"We are still confident that we can beat the drop this season," the 20-year-old winger told skysports.com.
"We are all going to fight until the end to keep this club in the Championship and there is a lot of hope around the club that we can do it.
"There is a chance of an upset tonight (against Newcastle) because the Championship is full of shock results each week.
"They are a very strong team and it will be a difficult match for us, but we are desperate to clinch the three points on offer and cause an upset at the same time."
The Devon-based club face dropping into the third-tier of English football for the first time in six years, but Bolasie insists they have the quality to bounce back at the first attempt, should the worst happen this season.
"I think that if we did drop down to League One then we have got the players to bounce back at the first attempt," he added.
"We've got some quality players here, plus a few that are currently out on loan, which will strengthen what we've already got here.
"It will be hard because there are some good sides in League One and not all of them can gain promotion in one season, so it will be a tough season should we go down this year, but we've definitely got the squad to compete for promotion."
