Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has faith in David Ngog and will not be judging the young striker by the example of Fernando Torres.
The 21-year-old is expected to be a regular member of the Reds' first XI for the remainder of the season as Spanish superstar Torres is out of contention due to a latest knee operation.
Ngog excellently netted his club's second goal in their 3-0 win over Premier League relegation candidates West Ham on Monday night to score his eighth of the season in all competitions.
But the striker has also shown signs of naivety and that was evident against the Hammers when he rushed somewhat in the first half when attempting an optimistic header rather than opting to control on his chest when through on goal.
Benitez, though, does not want to criticise and has instead asked that observers do not compare Ngog to Torres, saying: "He is not as prolific as Fernando but he is a young player trying his best and I have confidence in him.
"I think he was doing a good job. He has eight goals this year, which is not bad for a player who is so young.
"He is a clever player but he depends on the team. If the team is doing well he will score goals.
"He has improved a lot. There is plenty of room for more improvement but you can see a lot of things he is doing much better than the last year."
Ngog will be in contention to start Liverpool's Europa League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid on Thursday.
