Reports that Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Angel Di Maria from Benfica in the summer have been denied by sources close to the player.
The 22-year-old winger has attracted interest from several of Europe's major clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, but has now been tipped to move to Spain.
Argentinian newspaper Ole reported that a pre-contract agreement has been made after Nicolas Gaitan was signed by Benfica from Boca Juniors and Los Merengues will pay around €35million.
In Madrid, however, Marca reveals that those close to Di Maria himself have dismissed the story and stated that nothing has yet been decided by any parties.
Real Madrid's interest in the player, who will play a key role for Diego Maradona's Argentina side at the World Cup is nothing new as they have been tracking his progress since before he moved to Portugal.
Di Maria rose through the ranks at Rosario Central and after spending two seasons in their first team moved to Benfica in 2007 when they paid €6m for 80 per cent of his rights.
A year later the Portuguese outfit paid a further €2m for the other 20 per cent of his contract and Di Maria capped a memorable year with a call-up to the Argentina first-team squad.
