Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry is to see a specialist over the ankle injury he sustained in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham.
The ex-Aston Villa man sustained the knock after falling over a team-mate in the second half of the contest that ended their UEFA Champions League hopes.
Barry is already ruled out of City's final game of the Premier League season against West Ham this weekend, although it remains unknown how long he might be on the sidelines for.
The 29-year-old is almost certain to make England's 23-man World Cup squad this summer, with coach Fabio Capello likely to be anxious to ascertain the results of his scan.
Capello names his 30-man provisional squad for South Africa on Tuesday and will not want any doubts over a player who is regarded as a first-choice member of his starting line-up, having struck up an impressive midfield partnership with Frank Lampard.
City manager Roberto Mancini claimed last night that the damage was 'not too serious' although he admitted it would require further tests for a full diagnosis to be confirmed.
