Arsene Wenger is expecting Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh to be Arsenal's first signing of the summer on a free transfer.
Chamakh's contract with Bordeaux expires next month and he has long been expected to move to Emirates Stadium on a Bosman deal.
Wenger revealed prior to the weekend that a deal for the Morocco international is close to completion as he looks to turn Arsenal into a team capable of sustaining a Premier League title assault next season.
And, speaking after the 4-0 final day win over Fulham, Wenger confirmed that he is waiting to finalise the capture of Chamakh.
"He could be the first one, yes," Wenger told Sky Sports.
"We have to finalise some papers and some of the medical. It's not done yet, but it is very close."
Arsenal eased to victory over Europa League finalists Fulham, with Andrey Arshavin capitalising on a mistake from Mark Schwarzer to open the scoring on 21 minutes.
Robin van Persie and a Chris Baird own goal had the Gunners in command at half-time before substitute Carlos Vela scored a late fourth.
The result ensured Arsenal finished third in the table and guaranteed direct qualification for the UEFA Champions League group phase ahead of local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Wenger added: "I believe we did what we wanted today and that was to win the game so we didn't need to focus on the Tottenham result.
"In the end, it was a convincing win and I knew that, before the game, we would be up for it and would do the job."
