Skysports.com understands Derby are closing in on the signings of Crewe duo John Brayford and James Bailey.
The Rams are believed to have tabled a joint-bid for the pair, which has been accepted by League Two outfit Crewe.
Derby have held a long-term interest in Brayford with Nigel Clough having worked with the defender during his time in charge of Burton Albion and tried to sign him last season.
Midfielder Bailey is also thought to have caught the eye of Derby's coaching staff after impressing at Gresty Road.
The pair are expected to hold talks with Derby over the weekend after being given permission to meet with the Rams.
Clough is moving quickly in the transfer window having already agreed a deal for Doncaster's Gareth Roberts and he is hopeful of making Brayford and Bailey his latest additions.
