Barcelona Sporting Director Txiki Begiristian accepts his club cannot make a move for Cesc Fabregas unless Arsenal relax their stance.
The Catalan giants are long-time admirers of the Gunners skipper, after seeing him ripped from their grasp during his formative years.
He took the first tentative steps in a glittering career in the youth ranks at Camp Nou but was snapped up by Arsenal in 2003.
Fabregas has never made any secret of his desire to return to Barca at some point in the future and is reported to have informed his current employers that he would welcome the opportunity to do so this summer.
Arsenal, understandably, are reluctant to part with their talismanic captain, though, and insist the Spain international is not for sale.
Barcelona are prepared to accept that situation for now, but Begiristian is delighted to hear of Fabregas' desire to head home and believes it is only a matter of time before the 23-year-old is back in familiar surroundings.
"It's great news that he wants to come here and I think that one day Cesc will have to come to Barca," he told the club's official website.
"But what matters is Arsenal and what their decision is.
"They think he is a very important player for them. We have to respect that.
"At times the wishes of players do not come true because they are under contract.
"That he says that he wants to come to Barca is a synonym that things are being done well here.
"I don't know when but I have the impression that he is a Barca (style) player and that he will enjoy it very much.
"I wish it was as soon as possible. But we have to respect Arsenal's wishes and the contract he has."
Fabregas is under contract at Emirates Stadium until June 2014.
