David James believes England manager Fabio Capello has already made his mind up on who will be his number one at the World Cup Finals.
The position remains a huge cause for debate with Robert Green and Joe Hart challenging James for the position.
West Ham stopper Green has played in eight of the last 11 internationals and made a number of impressive stops in the 3-1 friendly win over Mexico last week.
Hart has enjoyed a productive spell on loan at Birmingham this term and did his chances of being named first choice this summer no harm with a solid display in the second half against Japan on Sunday.
However James, who won his 50th international cap in the 2-1 win over Japan in what was his first England start for 13 months, is sure Capello already knows who will start in goal for the opener against USA.
"Is it the most open in terms of who will be goalkeeper? Possibly, I don't know," he said.
"I believe the manager already knows. I really believe he does. Do I know? Even if I did, I wouldn't say. I just think he knows.
"He has given all of us a run-out in the two warm-up games with Mexico and Japan. But that was just to make sure everyone is right and had some game time for the tournament. There are no more friendlies now. That's it really."
James has had to play understudy to David Seaman in the 2002 finals and Paul Robinson in 2006 and despite the uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeper position remains confident that all three keepers are prepared.
"Does my experience make it easier to cope with the uncertainty? Don't forget, I'm also quite experienced at being a number three with England," he added.
"The main thing is I've got the utmost confidence in the way we are going to set up for the World Cup.
"That is the case, be it the starting keeper or the starting centre-half - but, whoever is not starting, will also be prepared.
"For the six of the squad, 23, there could be opportunities for anyone in there. One of Mr Capello's skills is making sure everyone is right and ready so should be interesting."
