Aussie ace hails pre-tournament efforts

Tim Cahill is pleased with the progress being made by Australia in their pre-World Cup preparations. The Socceroos are due to get their campaign underway against Germany on 13th June and are determined to get off to a positive start. They have been in South Africa for over a week already, with acclimatisation key to their plans. Pim Verbeek's side know that the teams that are able to cope with the difficulties of playing at altitude will fare best in the tournament. Physical conditioning is therefore vital and all 23 members of the squad are pushing hard to make sure they are in peak condition. Preparations on the field are also moving along nicely, with a 1-0 win over Denmark on Tuesday providing a welcome morale boost. Cahill admits he is delighted with how things are going and believes Australia could not be better prepared for a second consecutive appearance at the World Cup finals.

Fluent

"We're happy, we've trained really hard the last seven days and it's all about making sure that we have some nice fluent football and that we play well," said the Everton midfielder. "It's always nice to get a good result, but I think everyone has come off feeling really well. "For the team, it was nice the way we played football. It's nice with how hard we've worked. We are all very happy." Cahill also sees plenty of similarities between Australia's preparations for this event and their efforts in 2006. On that occasion they made it out of the group stages before coming unstuck, in controversial circumstances, against eventual winners Italy in the second round. "I don't see any difference," he said. "It's a big competition and it means we've got to compete as hard as we can and make sure we are consistent."
