Derby chief executive Tom Glick has attempted to steer clear of reports linking the club with Gary Hooper.
The Rams are known to be in the market for a new striker, as Nigel Clough is keen to bolster his attacking options.
Hooper, who has enjoyed a prolific two years with Scunthorpe, is believed to figure prominently on his summer shopping list after proving himself to be a regular source of goals.
Glick, though, claims Derby have their eye on more than one option and has refused to confirm or deny whether the club will be making a move for Hooper.
"He is someone we rate very highly but I wouldn't want to say he is the priority because the reality is that there are a number of talented, up-and-coming strikers out there," he told the
Derby Evening Telegraph.
Alternatives
"It's no secret that Gary had a great season at Scunthorpe, scoring 20 goals.
"But there are other players, like Simon Cox, who scored 29 goals for Swindon two years ago and got nine goals in limited appearances for West Brom.
"Then you have got James Vaughan, who we saw here briefly during a loan spell before he got injured, and there are others as well.
"We feel there are some very good options out there."
Glick is, however, prepared to reveal that the Rams have made finding a new frontman their top target over the coming weeks.
Potential
He added: "The majority of the activity has been done already and Nigel Clough is very happy with the six players we have brought in so far.
"We think these players have got their best years ahead of them.
"We feel very good about the defence and now we are focusing on where the goals are going to come from.
"We have six very good strikers on the books but we want to make sure we can count on those to produce the goals and stay fit.
"But we are looking at new faces and there is the potential that a new face could come in to add to that strike force to give us the goals we need."
