Defender leaves Morecambe to sign two-year deal at Gresty Road

Crewe Alexandra have snapped up defender David Artell on a two-year contract from League Two rivals Morecambe. Artell's contract at Morecambe was due to expire and he has opted for a free transfer move to Gresty Road. The 29-year-old spent three seasons with the Shrimps after joining from Chester City and scored 15 goals in 129 appearances for Sammy McIlroy's side. He also netted against Crewe last season as he grabbed the third goal in Morecambe's dramatic 4-3 home win over the Railwaymen in April. Artell becomes Crewe manager Dario Gradi's third signing of the summer after Lee Bell and Anthony Sarcevic agreed deals.
