Irishman building towards long-awaited comeback

Reading striker Noel Hunt says he is relishing the prospect of returning to full training following his injury nightmare. Hunt has been out of action since last October after sustaining a serious knee injury but has started his rehabilitation ahead of the new Championship season. The 27-year-old has begun his fitness work earlier in an attempt to accelerate his progression to full practice and the forward is optimistic about his prospects of returning to top condition over the summer. He said: "Even when I was on holiday I was going to the gym every day and it was good to do that. I want to come back even fitter than I was before and it's all going well. "When I got back from my holiday the other week the first thing I did was touch base with the club about when I could get training again with a football. I was back in on Monday last week and have been doing lots of running. "We then built it up to sharp turns and other exercises and everything is feeling good with my knee." But the former Dundee United man warned against the danger of rushing his comeback, adding: "I've been running since April and it's just a case of building my strength up slowly. "You basically have to teach your body how to run again and take everything step by step. It's one of those things where you have to keep your head straight too."
