France and Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery is to undergo surgery on a long-standing groin problem on Friday but he is expected to be fit for the start of the new season.
It was decided at the end of the last campaign that the 27-year-old would have the operation, but the procedure has been moved forward after France's early exit from the World Cup in South Africa.
Ribery returned to Munich by private jet on Thursday and the Bundesliga champions have acted quickly to ensure their star man goes under the knife before departing for his summer holiday.
He will now spend a few days in a Munich clinic before then being given time off and reporting for pre-season training with his team-mates in mid-July.
A statement on Bayern's official website read: "The routine procedure was agreed upon by Ribery and Bayern chief medical officer Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt at the end of last season."
It is expected Ribery will be fully fit for the start of the Bundesliga campaign on 20th August.
