Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet has expressed his delight after agreeing a deal to sign Matt Sparrow from Scunthorpe United.
The midfielder has turned down a new contract at Scunthorpe in favour of a three-year deal at Brighton and he is due to undergo a medical on Tuesday.
His arrival on the South Coast will help to fill the void created by Andrew Crofts' departure to Norwich City and Poyet is looking forward to having Sparrow in his squad.
"For a moment we didn't think we had a chance of signing Matt, but after he became available he was willing to come down to see us," Poyet told the club's official website.
"He has been playing regularly in the middle of the park for Scunthorpe. He has also played quite a few games wide on the right, but he prefers to play in the middle.
"He's a box-to-box player, and if we play how we want to, we will be able to release him to get forward and score goals.
"It's difficult to say that he is a direct replacement for Crofty, because Crofty was unique. But we were missing a box-to-box player, and Matt is good on the ball and will give us something extra in front of goal.
"He's another good addition to the team and I'm delighted that he's joined us."
