Wigan new boy Mauro Boselli has revealed that Juan Sebastian Veron recommended he move to the Premier League.
Boselli completed his move to the DW Stadium from Estudiantes on Tuesday, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal after a fee believed to be in excess of £6million was agreed between the clubs.
It was a big decision for the Argentine striker to leave his homeland and he admits he sought advice from compatriot and Estudiantes team-mate Veron.
Veron endured a difficult three-year spell at Manchester United and also failed to make much of an impact with Chelsea.
However, it was his advice that convinced Boselli to embark on a new challenge in England with the Latics.
"Juan played for Manchester United and Chelsea and has good knowledge of the English game," Boselli told Wigan's official website.
"He told me it was the best place in the world to play your football and that it would be the best place for me as a player."
Boselli was also impressed by what he heard from Wigan boss Roberto Martinez and is now looking forward to showing the supporters what he can do.
"To be honest I wish we could start tomorrow," said the 25-year-old.
"Everything Roberto said about the club and English football helped a great deal and made me realise that this was the right move for me.
"He wanted me here to play and enjoy my football in Wigan, which means a lot to me.
"In Argentina fans appreciate a player who plays with passion, and from what I've seen it's the same in England.
"Hopefully I can make the fans proud of the work I do on the pitch for them and for the team."
