Spain defender Gerard Pique believes Germany's attacking style could work in his side's favour in their World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
The Spaniards secured an unconvincing 1-0 win in their last-eight encounter against a defensive Paraguay side on Saturday, with David Villa securing their passage to the semis with a decisive strike seven minutes from time.
But Barcelona centre-back Pique believes Spain could fare better against the Germans, who have demonstrated a tendency to attack in their previous games.
"It is always difficult when a team is just trying to defend and try and score on the counter-attack," Pique told
The Independent.
"You cannot choose when you score and sometimes you have to defend as well."
Benefit
Misfiring striker Fernando Torres, who is yet to find the back of the net in South Africa and could be dropped for the last-four clash, agrees Spain will benefit from Germany's style of play.
"They will try to win, they will try to attack and we can have more space and we can approach that," said Torres.
Villa, who is currently the tournament's leading scorer with five goals, believes Paraguay presented the toughest challenge in South Africa so far.
"The game against Paraguay was the most difficult up to now," said Villa.
"We know that when the opponents sit back and just defend it's difficult for us, but we succeeded."
