Australian midfielder completes move on two-year contract

Lazio have completed the signing of Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano. The 30-year-old had reached the end of his contract with Palermo so moves as a free agent, signing a two-year deal at the Stadio Olimpico. Bresciano revealed last week a move had been agreed and the transfer has now been approved by the Italian league. Lazio will be Bresciano's fourth Italian club after spells at Empoli, Parma and Palermo.

A number of clubs were keen on signing Bresciano, with reports he had agreed to join former Palermo coach Walter Zenga at Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr on a two-year deal. However, that news proved to be premature and Lazio have now won the race to take him to the Italian capital. Bresciano has just featured for Australia at the World Cup and has now made 57 international appearances for the Socceroos, scoring 11 goals. He joined Palermo from Parma in 2006, and went on to score 12 goals in 107 appearances for the club.
