Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney is hoping to join Oldham Athletic after holding talks with manager Paul Dickov.
Feeney is available on a free transfer after being released by Cardiff City at the end of last season and was at Boundary Park on Monday for Oldham's friendly against Burnley.
The striker believes the discussions were positive and he has confirmed he is keen to join the League One side ahead of other clubs.
"I have spoken to other clubs, but after I talked to Paul and Gerry (Taggart), there was only one winner. I want to play my football here," said Feeney.
Dickov acknowledged he has held talks with Feeney, but still believes that the Latics face competition to sign the 29-year-old.
"Warren is someone we like and are interested in, but we could also say the same about several other players," Dickov told the club's official website.
"I am not going to lie and we have spoken to Warren and he is keen to come, but we are up against competition from other clubs.
"He has a good pedigree having won 35 caps and there will be other clubs in for him."
