Alex McLeish is confident he will soon be in a position to commit his long-term future to Birmingham City.
The Scot has just one more year to run on his current contract at St Andrews and has been locked in talks regarding an extension for some time.
Having led the Blues to an unexpected ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season, the club are understandably keen to get him tied down on fresh terms.
Discussions regarding a new deal are still in progress, but McLeish believes headway is being made and fully expects to put pen to paper sooner rather than later.
"Contract-wise, it's ongoing. Peter (Pannu, vice-chairman) who is a lawyer, is speaking to my lawyer so the two legal guys are getting together and discussing figures," he said.
"There's a little bit to go but I don't see it being a big stumbling block."
Defender Liam Ridgewell, who has extended his own contract with Birmingham this summer, is hoping an agreement with McLeish can be reached as the former Rangers boss has helped to bring about a change in fortunes for the Midlands club.
He said: "It's ongoing, everyone wants to sort out what they've got to do and I'm sure the gaffer wants to take this club forward as we all do.
"All the people who've signed new deals want to take the club further and try and see how far can we go so it's important we secure the gaffer and add to it as well.
"Hopefully it'll get sorted and we can get on with the new season without any of that, not hassle, but any of that going about, really."
