Les Bleus duo implicated in scandal

France stars Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema have been questioned by police over their involvement in an alleged prostitution ring. The pair have been accused of having sex with a prostitute who was underage and are now being quizzed by a special prostitution brigade in Paris on Tuesday. The investigation was put on hold until after the World Cup finals following the revelations from a young woman, who claimed several football players paid for her services while she was a minor. Prostitution is legalised in France but prostitutes must be over 18 years-old and clients are liable if they are not. No charges have been filed but the scandal gripped the country prior to the World Cup finals when Ribery was first questioned in April. Benzema's agent has previously said his client had done nothing wrong. The affair comes on the back of France's disastrous World Cup campaign, which saw Les Bleus exit at the group stage following a training ground mutiny by the players. Striker Sidney Govou, who has just moved from Lyon to Greek side Panathinaikos, was also questioned by police in April over the incident.
