Wales boss keen to see star names steer clear of injury

John Toshack is relishing the prospect of having the likes of Craig Bellamy available on a regular basis. The Wales boss is currently stepping up his preparations for a Euro 2012 qualification campaign. His next test will be a friendly date with Luxembourg next week, a game which is set to see a number of top stars make their eagerly-anticipated return to action. Injuries have reeked havoc on the Wales squad over recent times, denying Toshack the opportunity to call on established stars such as Bellamy, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Collison and Simon Davies, but there does finally appear to be light at the end of the tunnel. "I really hope Craig, Simon and James Collins, the three established older heads in the squad, will have better luck with injuries," said Toshack. "We really missed all three of them for large parts of the last tournament.

Important

"James is missing this time but I'm hopeful Craig and Simon will be with us next week, and for the championship games, firing on all cylinders. "They are an important part of the side." Toshack is also looking forward to welcoming back the youthful exuberance of Collison and Ramsey, two youngsters he feels are vital to Wales' future. "They are two talented young midfielders," he said. "I hope we will have sufficient quality to fill that gap at the moment but we're keen to have them both back fit again. "It looks as though they could be playing again by the end of the calendar year, so we will hopefully see them early in the New Year."
