Bayern Munich have ruled out the release of midfielder Franck Ribery for a hearing with the French Football Federation over the World Cup.
Ribery is one of five players who have been summoned to meet with FFF officials in Paris to explain what happened during France's controversial campaign in South Africa this summer, where they crashed out of the tournament in the group stage.
The 27-year-old was a prominent member of the Les Bleus team that staged a training strike at the World Cup in support of striker Nicolas Anelka, who was dismissed from the squad after a row with former manager Raymond Domenech.
However, the hearing is scheduled for 17th August, three days before the new Bundesliga season gets underway, and Bayern have issued an angry response, insisting they will not let Ribery leave.
"It is not on that the French Federation randomly remove Franck Ribery from his responsibilities with FC Bayern," said Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in a press release.
"The preparations for the new Bundesliga season have priority over the World Cup debriefing of the French Federation."
The German club claim that Ribery's invitation, or 'summons' has 'not been made in agreement with FC Bayern.'
The statement continued: "According to FIFA statutes, clubs must only release their players for fixed dates as laid out by the international football calendar, and that is not the case here.
"For this reason, FC Bayern Munich will not release Franck Ribery for this hearing."
Ribery is expected to be fit for the start of the Bundesliga season on 20th August after recently recovering from a groin operation, but Bayern are keen for him not to miss any scheduled training sessions as he rebuilds his fitness.
Patrice Evra, Eric Abidal, Nicolas Anelka and Jeremy Toulalan will appear at the hearing, while an FFF statement confirmed other squad members may be called before the committee 'if deemed appropriate'.
