Leicester City striker Steve Howard is in talks over a new contract with the club, despite speculation linking him with a move away.
The 34-year-old striker seemed on his way out of the Walkers Stadium, with Huddersfield a possible destination after the Terriers made an approach for him.
Former Foxes boss Nigel Pearson had offered the experienced forward a deal before he left for Hull City, but following his departure, Howard's future was clouded in uncertainty.
However, new manager Paulo Sousa wants Howard to remain at the club as he has become an integral part of his plans, scoring a penalty winner against Leeds in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.
Howard told the
Leicester Mercury: "I am very happy here and I am in the process of renegotiating my contract. It should be sorted out in a week or two.
"Moving to Huddersfield was an option for me and there was talk of it but Paulo (Sousa) said he wants me here and now I will carry on and do my best for him."
Meanwhile, Leicester have handed a trial to young Dutch defender Randel Shakison.
The left-back, 20, came through the ranks at Ajax's famed youth academy and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Tottenham on Wednesday, with his 10-day trial concluding next week
Sousa added: "My scouts made me aware of Randel. He has a good background from Ajax.
"The way Ajax work in their youth department it is good enough to make us give attention to all the players coming from there.
"He will be with us about 10 days and we will see what happens."
