Andy Webster has withdrawn from the Scotland squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers with a hamstring injury.
The news is a hammer blow for Webster and for Scotland who will face Lithuania and Liechtenstein next month.
Webster, who played a string of successful matches whilst on loan at Dundee United, has been plagued by injuries during his time with Rangers.
He participated pre-season for the Gers but has missed their opening fixtures and will sit out Saturday's clash with St Johnstone.
Rangers boss Walter Smith said: "I thought he was going to be fit last weekend but on the morning of the game he felt his hamstring again.
"I think it's a sciatic problem. He is not fit for this weekend and he has obviously had to pull out of the internationals.
"Hopefully that will settle down for obvious reasons of needing everyone available."
Webster has made only one appearance for Rangers since joining the club from Wigan, initially on-loan, in January 2007.
He figured twice in pre-season training and played in two matches during the tour of Australia but has not trained with the first team in five weeks.
