Portuguese international heading for Anfield

Porto midfielder Raul Meireles is set to sign for Liverpool after the two clubs reportedly agreed a fee on Friday night. The Portugal international played for his country in this summer's World Cup, scoring a goal in an impressive performance against North Korea in the group stage. Meireles is understood to be ready to make the move following the arrival of fellow international Joao Moutinho and will replace Barcelona-bound Javier Mascherano in central midfield for the Reds. A fee of around £10.7 million is believed to have been agreed for the 27-year-old to join Roy Hodgson's new regime at Anfield, with Paul Konchesky also expected to sign from Fulham. Meireles was left out of the team for Porto's Europa League qualifier against Genk, fuelling speculation that he was on his way out of the club. Meireles began his career with Boavista before moving to Porto in 2004, playing against Liverpool and impressing in both group games in the UEFA Champions League in the 2007/8 season.
