Bolton manager Owen Coyle believed Jussi Jaaskelainen's red card was 'totally out of character' as the Trotters claimed a late point against Birmingham.
Coyle accepted that Bolton's number one deserved his sending-off for slapping out at Birmingham defender Roger Johnson just before half-time.
Wanderers rescued a point thanks to Kevin Davies' penalty and Robbie Blake's dramatic late free-kick after the Blues had taken a two-goal lead through Roger Johnson and Craig Gardner.
The Trotters boss told Sky Sports: "It was very out of character but it was clearly a sending-off, no doubt about it.
"What I would say is that Jussi saved us last week when he was the architect of the three points against West Ham.
"He knows he's done wrong but he's made a mistake and he will bounce back."
Coyle also hailed his side's battling display and felt that his side should have claimed all three points at the Reebok.
"We know the courage these boys have got and the bravery and desire. They've dragged themselves into the game.
"If you analyse that game, they'll probably feel that they're probably worthy of the win.
"But, with 2-0 down and with ten men, we're absolutely delighted to have salvaged a point from it."
