Sevilla seal Fabiano future

Sevilla have announced that striker Luis Fabiano has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2013.

Sevilla have announced that striker Luis Fabiano has signed a contract extension with the club until the summer of 2013.

The Brazilian forward has been subject of intense transfer speculation for the majority of the summer, but the 29-year old has committed his future to los Nervionenses, ending interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Olympique Marseille.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was extremely keen on the Brazilian international, who was in his last year of contract at the La Liga side.

But Fabiano, who joined the Spanish outfit from Porto in 2005, has put an end to links with a move away from the club by inking a two-year extension on his current deal at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Very happy

"It's a very happy day. This is my home, I've been here six seasons and I will try to continue scoring goals and continue making history for Sevilla.

"My first option was to renew with Sevilla. I rejected many offers and there were many interested teams. My desire was always to be here and what's true is that we have made a great effort to renew the contract."

He added: "Sevilla have given me everything. When I arrived here the fans didn't think much of Luis Fabiano, because at my two previous teams in Europe things didn't go well.

"But here I've returned to the national team, I've won many titles...I owe a lot to Sevilla, that's the truth."

Sevilla kicked their domestic campaign off in style on Saturday with a 4-1 away win over Levante to top the table and Fabiano was an unused substitute during Saturday's game.

But the 29-year-old, who helped Sevilla win two Uefa Cups, two Copa del Reys and the European and Spanish Super Cups, is expected to return to the starting line-up against Deportivo La Coruna next time out after having his future resolved.
