Blackburn defender back at Reading for a second loan stint

Reading have signed defender Zurab Khizanishvili on a season-long loan from Blackburn Rovers. The Georgian returns to the Madejski Stadium having played 15 games on loan with the Royals last season, helping them climb the Championship table. The 28-year-old also spent another spell on loan in the Championship last season as he made seven appearances for eventual champions Newcastle before Christmas. "We're really pleased to have him back," Reading boss Brian McDermott told the club's official website.

Fans' favourite

"He was a real favourite with our fans, we know exactly what we're getting and it's a really positive addition to our squad." Khizanishvili can play anywhere across defence and also in a holding midfield role, and has made 93 appearances for Blackburn. The former Dundee man made a permanent move to Blackburn in the summer of 2006 having spent the previous season on loan at Ewood Park from Rangers. "I'm very pleased to have got the deal done," added director of football Nick Hammond. "He did very well for Brian last season and I've been in conversation with Blackburn all summer. "As soon as we were in position to do the deal we were delighted to complete it very quickly."
