Alex McLeish insists the decision not to sign Mauro Boselli proves that he is in charge of Birmingham City's transfer policy.
Carson Yeung's takeover at St Andrews last year saw Sammy Yu eventually take on a football consultant role, which he resigned from over the weekend.
Yu is reported to have set up a deal for Blues to bring in Boselli, but McLeish vetoed the transfer as he did not feel the Argentine striker would suit his team.
Boselli eventually joined Wigan Athletic and he has yet to score in five appearances as he continues to adapt to English football.
McLeish is prepared to listen to advice regarding potential signings, but is adamant he must have the final say on which players join Birmingham.
"I think Boselli is a good player, but I didn't see him for our style," said McLeish, who signed a new contract as Birmingham manager on Saturday.
"It will be me that carries the can if results don't go for us, so it would be crazy for me not to choose the players.
"You can see by the fact we didn't sign Boselli that the signings are down to the manager, that is the way we go forward.
"I don't mind some input, but as custodian of the club on the football side I had to make sure that if someone was coming in it was the right deal for the club.
"There were many interesting names, but one or two I didn't want to bring. It was as simple as that."
