Barnsley have won the chase to sign West Bromwich Albion's teenage striker Chris Wood on a three-month loan deal.
West Brom revealed earlier this month that Wood was wanted on loan by up to 10 Championship clubs after impressing for New Zealand at the World Cup.
Derby County, in particular, had expressed a strong interest in signing the 18-year-old, but Barnsley have agreed a deal for the forward.
"Woodsy's a very promising talent, but with the recent acquisitions of Peter Odemwingie and Marc-Antoine Fortune, and with Roman Bednar, Simon Cox and Ishmael Miller also on our books, he's not getting the game time he needs at this stage of his career," Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo told the club's official website.
"We feel it is best for his footballing education that he goes out on loan and gets some first-team games under his belt.
"He'll hopefully get those in the Championship at Barnsley, who are an excellent footballing side, and we'll be closely monitoring his progress."
Wood has made two substitute appearances for West Brom so far this season and will go straight into Barnsley's squad for Saturday's game at Reading.
