Azzurri boss hints at Totti recall

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has revealed that he is considering offering an international recall to Francesco Totti. The 34-year-old attacker announced his retirement from the Azzurri after their World Cup success in 2006, but could yet make a return to the fold. Italy crashed out of the European Championships in 2008 at the quarter-final stage, and Totti admitted after the tournament that he would be open to an international comeback. Then coach Marcello Lippi overlooked the Roma stalwart but following his departure from the helm, Prandelli has now admitted a desire to bring him back. "We're looking for quality and Totti has proved over time to have technical quality and also great character," he said. "The idea of seeing Totti and (Antonio) Cassano together in the national team is a particular desire, we're talking about friendship, a relationship that exists between them. "We wanted to create an occasion which would be an example for kids who would want to watch the match. "I said it would be great for two friends to rediscover each other on the pitch." Prandelli saw his side kick off their Euro 2012 campaign with wins over Estonia and Faroe Islands, and they currently sit on top of Group C. The Azzurri boss also revealed that he is looking forward to Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli overcoming his current injury so he can be called up to the squad. "I miss him because I really want to try out an attack with players of his intellectual capacity," added Prandelli. "He made a good impression with the national team and I only hope he recovers from injury as best as he can."
