Young Sheffield United defender Matt Lowton will remain at Bramall Lane for another two years after penning a new deal.
The 21-year-old, who was due to be out of contract next summer, has extended his deal until the summer of 2012, with the option for another year.
The stopper came up through the youth ranks at the south Yorkshire club and has spent time on loan in Hungary with Ferencvaros.
Lowton, who endured a frustrating start to the season after being handed a red card in the Blades' curtain-raiser at Cardiff, is thrilled to commit his future to the club.
"My existing deal was due to run out next summer but hopefully the new contract will give me time to develop and learn from the coaches and senior players at the club," Lowton told the club's
official website.
"The sending-off at Cardiff was a bit of a blow but I'm delighted to be back in the squad and being involved once again."
Lowton came off the bench late in Gary Speed's side's Championship draw at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, replacing injured Arsenal loanee Kyle Bartley.
