South American striker linked with Nerazzurri

Inter Milan technical director Marco Branca has denied that the club tried to sign Edinson Cavani during the summer. The 23-year-old striker is currently on loan at Napoli from Serie A rivals Palermo, but speculation had suggested the Nerazzurri were close to securing his services. Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini revealed that Inter were interested in Cavani's signature, but Branca refutes such claims. "I'd like that Zamparini wouldn't use again our club to talk up his market," he told Inter's official website. "Inter have never had Cavani as their target and, in general, should we define a target, we get it." Uruguay international Cavani has been in fine form for Napoli so far this season, having initially signed for Palermo back in 2007.
