Roma defender sees ban reduced from three to two games

Roma defender Philippe Mexes has seen his recent three-match ban for remonstrating with officials reduced to two games. The reduction in the ban means the French defender - who has already missed the Serie A clash with Inter Milan and will not play at Napoli on Sunday - could now return against Genoa on 17th October. Mexes received his ban for remonstrating with officials as he left the field after he was sent off for a second booking on Brescia forward Eder on 22nd September. Television replays showed he made little contact with Eder for his second booking and the match referee, Carmine Russo, was then widely criticised after the game. While his ban has been reduced, the Italian football federation (FIGG) has doubled his fine to 20,000 euros (£16,400).
