Schalke manager Felix Magath is holding his nerve after goalkeeper Manuel Neuer voiced his dissatisfaction at the club's current predicament.
The club are currently sitting second from bottom in the Bundesliga, with Germany international Neuer, who has previously been linked with Bayern Munich and Manchester United, intimating he may consider his options should the side's fortunes not improve.
Neuer, whose contract runs until 2012, insists he wants to be playing in European competition next year.
In response, Magath, who has been at the club's helm since 2009, says he is not happy with the situation either, but insists it will take time to resolve.
He signed 14 new players in the summer and released 15 as he seeks to put his stamp on the club and create competition in all areas.
Magath told Austria-based Servus TV: "Who should be feeling fine with the current situation? Do you think I am satisfied with it actually? No one can be satisfied with our current position.
"But this does not mean I have to question everything right now. I know I have to come up with a European club competition to keep a player like Manuel Neuer.
"That is why I undertook such a clearout over the summer - to create those reasons to keep a player like Manuel Neuer."
He added: "This is a professional business, I cannot keep an eye on the proposed feelings of a certain player in my squad when signing new players.
"One might take it as an offense to see me signing a new player for his position. Professional football is like that.
"It is having competition for the roles inside the first-team to ensure no one is hiding away from the fact there are new players going for a first-team situation."
