Celtic have suffered a blow with the news skipper Scott Brown faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.
Brown was forced to pull out of the Scotland squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers with Czech Republic and Spain because of injury.
Scans have now shown that the all-action midfielder has sustained a metatarsal injury and faces at least six weeks on the sidelines, although the club fear he could be out of action for even longer.
"Following scans it has been found that Scott has suffered a stress reaction in the third metatarsal on his right foot," a club statement read.
"Investigations are ongoing but it is likely that Scott will, unfortunately, be out for a period of six weeks.
"However, this could potentially be longer, though the club will only know after Scott sees a specialist next Tuesday."
The news is a major blow for Brown as he has been struggling for full fitness since the start of last season when he went under the knife for botched surgery.
It means Brown will miss next weekend's trip to Dundee United as well as the first Old Firm derby of the season against Rangers on 24th October.
